100-Calorie Snacks to Keep You Full

What Are the Best Low-Calorie Snacks?

There are plenty of low calorie snacks marketed as “100-calories,” but most don’t leave you feeling very satisfied. And if being hungry wasn’t bad enough once you flip over the bag and look at the ingredients you may find that what you ate was mostly chemicals and not healthy at all! The good news is that there are a lot of foods that are naturally low in calories. We’ve got some great suggestions for healthy, great-tasting snacks that will make you feel satisfied..

The one rule of thumb you should be following when looking for low-calorie snacks that fill you up is to make sure your snacks are high in protein and fiber. Good sources of protein are lean meats and poultry, nuts, seeds and dairy; sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Here are a few of my favorite examples to get you started:

Turkey & Cheese Roll-up – Roll up 1 full-fat cheese stick with 2 slices of turkey and enjoy! Try substituting one of the turkey slices for 1 tsp of roasted red pepper hummus for an added burst of flavor.

Greek Yogurt & Raspberries – Add 10 raspberries to a small container of plain Greek yogurt. The protein from the yogurt will keep you full and the raspberries will add just the right amount of sweetness!

Popcorn & Cheese – 2 cups of white air-popped popcorn with 1 tbsp. of Parmesan cheese is a great savory combo. For extra B-vitamins swap out the Parmesan cheese for nutritional yeast; it has a similar cheesy flavor with extra nutrients!

Baked Apple & Peanut Butter – This is a perfect warm and comforting snack. Cut an apple in half and remove the core. Place on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes. Remove and sprinkle with cinnamon and 1tsp of peanut butter!

1/3 Cup Edamame – This has both protein and fiber so it stands alone!

Hard-boiled Egg & Hummus – A hard-boiled egg would also stand alone as a great snack, but I also love to cut the egg in half and spread a little hummus on each side for extra delicious flavor!

Cucumber & Cottage Cheese – Peel one cucumber, cut it in half and scoop the seeds out. Then fill in the hallowed out area with ¼ cup of 2% cottage cheese. Top with fresh cracked pepper!
