Tea tree also commonly known as melaleuca, is a well-known essential oil known for its health promoting benefits. It’s been used for hundreds of years for its powerful antiseptic properties and ability to treat wounds. Tea tree is mainly derived from the Australian native plant Melaleuca alternifolia.
Tea tree is commonly used for:
For Acne
Tea tree oil is fantastic for acne and doesn’t have the negative side effects of red, dried, and peeling skin that is associated with using benzoyl peroxide. What I personally love to do is dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with 20 to 40 drops of witch hazel and apply to the skin once or twice a day with a cotton swab.
For Hair
Tea tree oil is wonderful for the health of your hair and scape. It has the ability to soothe dry skin, get rid of dandruff, and even has been used in lice treatments. I love adding a few drops of tea tree oil into the shampoo I am currently using.
For Cleaning
Tea tree oil is really a great cleaner because of the antimicrobial properties that kill off any bad bacteria on the surface you are cleaning. I love adding 20 drops of tea tree oil with vinegar in a spray bottle and using for my kitchen cleaner. Plus, your kitchen will smell wonderful.
Kills Mold
Since tea tree oil has those powerful antimicrobial properties it is a wonderful tool to fight off mold. I have an essential oil diffuser that I always have tea tree oil being added to our household air. I also use the cleaning mixture with tea tree to clean any areas in my basement or bathroom that might be more prone to mold.
In Deodorant
When buying a deodorant consider looking for one that contains tea tree oil for those antimicrobial properties that will kill off any unwanted bacteria that causes odor. If you find a tea tree oil spray deodorant you can also spray your shoes with it, to keep it smelling amazingly fresh.
Toothpaste for Oral Health
I love finding a toothpaste that contains tea tree oil, not only for the amazing fresh taste but tea trees ability to fight off bad bacteria and soothe inflammation. It’s wonderful for gums and tooth decay.
When using tea tree oil, you do want to be mindful not to ingest the straight essential oil, as it is poisonous if ingested, but to find a product like tooth paste that already has the tea tree oil incorporated in. This article is not intended to be a medical recommendation.
